The other option you could consider is a length of hose with some wire through it in the curve, to form an arch you can attach the flowers/leaves to that way you just temporarily attach the hose-arch to the rented metal arch, maybe with some zip ties. This way the straight sides will be fabric that hangs and have some movement and looseness, but the actual shape of the arch is solid and structured.
